IFMBE Young Investigator Competition for Biomedical Engineering

1.  Aim

The purpose of the IFMBE Young Investigator Competition is to recognize excellence in conference contributions whose primary authors are young investigators; based on originality, clarity, and potential impact on practical applications or theoretical foundations.

2.  Eligibility

Young Investigators are concerned persons under the age of 35 working in the field of biomedical engineering and science. Young investigators must be the first authors of the  paper and have to present the paper/poster at the conference themselves.

3.  Submission

The papers for the Competition have to be sent through the regular conference submission system. When submitting their paper to the conference, candidates have to confirm that they want to participate in the Competition.

4.  Awards Committee

The Awards Committee of the Regional IFMBE Conference consists of five distinguished researchers from the region, usually members of the International Program Committee of the Conference. The Awards Committee Members are proposed by the regional conference organizing committee and approved by the IFMBE AC (or president). The Awards  Committee has to be appointed within fifteen days after the deadline for the submission of the papers.

5.  Conflict of Interest

Members of the Awards Committee are not allowed to be authors or co-authors of the competitors.

6.  Selection

The Awards Committee makes an initial selection of papers based on the regular conference paper review procedure. Further selection is made on additional reviews of the papers of the finalists. Final decision includes evaluation of the oral or poster presentation at the conference in regular sessions. Each paper has to be reviewed by at least one of the Awards Committee member during the reviewing process.

7.  Finalists

The number of finalists may vary depending on the number of the participants of the conference and/or the number of Young Investigators who entered the Competition, but should not be less than 3 or more than 10.

The names of the finalists are announced on the website at least one month before the beginning of the conference.

8.  IFMBE Young Investigators Awards

The awards for the best papers; first, second and third place are awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.

The awards are presented jointly by a member of the Conference Organizing Committee and by IFMBE President himself.

The Award comprises of a diploma and of a monetary prize as set in agreement by the Conference Organizer and IFMBE. Diplomas are provided by IFMBE.
